School Based Behavioral Health Clinician

 

General Responsibilities: 

Assist the school-based health center primary care provider in recognizing, treating, and managing mental health and psychological issues of students in the school-based health center at Woonsocket Middle School. Also provide BH counseling and crisis intervention for patients on-site at Thundermist Health Center during times when school is not in session.

 

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree and appropriate license/certification in social work.
  2. Two years clinical experience.
  3. Experience with diverse populations and bi-lingual/bi-cultural candidates (Spanish/English) preferred.

 

Physical Effort/Environment:

Moderate physical activity is required: sitting, standing, walking, and lifting. Travel to off-site meetings and other program sites as needed is required.

 

Work Schedule Demands:

The work schedule is 40 hours per week; mornings, afternoons, and evenings as required.

 

Communication Skills:

  1. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, required.
  2. The ability to effectively work and communicate with a multi-disciplinary team, other service providers, and patients is critical to the success of this position.

 

Confidentiality of Information:

The incumbent has access to client’s medical records, financial information, and documentation regarding prior services from outside agencies. The maintenance of client information confidentiality is required.

Significant Job Functions:

Clinical & Direct Service Responsibilities

  1. Apply knowledge of Psychiatric Diagnosis (DSM-V-TR & ICD-9) in order to perform and record mental status examination findings and multi-axial diagnostic formulation with assigned patient caseload.
  2. Provide primary prevention, individual assessment, crisis intervention, short term treatment and referral services to students/patients referred by school-based health center nurse practitioner.
  3. Document patient’s progress and diagnostic information in the electronic health record.

Documentation & General Administrative Duties

  1. Perform timely and accurate record keeping in accordance with all Health Center requirements.
  2. Complete behavioral health screening & progress notes, encounter forms, reports, evaluations, and insurance documentation as required by pay sources.
  3. Complete clear, specific, and behaviorally measurable treatment plans with assigned patients.
  4. Maintain cooperative relationships with Health Center employees, School system employees, patients, community agencies and the public.
  5. Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.
  6. Deal with team members regarding problems in a constructive manner.
  7. Maintain a willingness to listen to and respond to constructive feedback from supervisory personnel.
  8. Serve on Health Center committees and workgroups as requested.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned for which you are qualified.
