General Responsibilities:

The staff physician is responsible for providing primary medical care to health center patients who have been assigned to them. The physician is a licensed, autonomous provider executing professional clinical judgment in the care of their patients, according to the guidelines, policies and procedures set forth by the agency. Responsibilities include on-site patient care, hospital care, and after hours call and coverage.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • M.D. or D.O. with a completed three-year (minimum) residency in one of the following: family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, or pediatrics.
  • Board Certification: in specialty (family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology or pediatrics within two years start of employment. Full, unrestricted license to practice medicine as a physician in RI

 

Primary Contacts: External/ Frequency:

1. Laboratory Staff: Daily

2. Pharmacy Sales Representatives: Weekly

3. Residency Training Programs: Periodically

 

 

Significant Job Functions:

 

Clinical:

  • Complete management of primary medical care for assigned patients, including: · provision of care by appointment - review, documentation and management of medical records · review, coordination of referred services including laboratory, specialty care, pharmacy, ancillary services
  • After hours call and coverage for THC and community based patients
  • In-patient hospital services for assigned patients
  • Attending service responsibilities as assigned by hospital
  • Teaching/training of residents, as assigned by THC
  • Precepting of physician residents or nurse practitioners as assigned by THC Administrative: Participation in departmental, team and full staff meetings to review and develop policies and procedures, health care plans, clinical goals and objectives.

 

Physical Effort/Environment:

Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, and stooping. Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, respiratory diseases and other infectious diseases, and other biohazards material requiring universal standard precautions for medical practitioners. Manual dexterity needed for certain medical procedures. Transportation necessary to hospital. Clinical environment in ambulatory and hospital based settings. 

 

Work Schedule Demands:

Full time (40 plus) hours per week, unless part time status is agreed upon by administration. A minimum or 32 clinical hours on-site; in-patients hospital hours; after hours call and coverage as scheduled. Work schedule will involve some evenings and weekends, and periods of 24-hour call and coverage.

 

Communication Skills:

Exceptional oral and written skills needed. Proficient in all applicable medical terminology. Bilingual capacity in Spanish or Laotian is a plus.
