OSP Engineer II
Job Summary:
The OSP Engineer II is responsible for all aspects of outside plant design services, training, and monitoring of others in support of the company. The position will need to have a strong understanding of outside plant FTTH design, make ready analysis and remediation, permitting processes, construction and splicing practices, as well as apply general telecommunication industry standards including government codes and regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for field engineering as well as training of less experienced field engineers and contractors.
- Responsible for developing status reports to management on a daily and/or weekly basis.
- Responsible for monitoring and assisting the work of field engineers and contractors and working with other departments to ensure the successful deployment of Shentel networks.
- Conducts daily check-ins with field engineers to ensure the projects are on track.
- Assist in the planning, analysis, and recommendations in support of new construction of outside plant network structures and facilities.
- Supports and assists with State, Local and Federal permit preparation and processes.
- Assists in obtaining right-of-way use approval.
- Assists with as-built changes and updates to drawings.
- Serve as a point of contact for technical, budget and scheduling issues. Leading and scheduling meetings as required.
- Prepare or assist in preparing technical white papers, specifications, training documents, or technical presentations as necessary.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Ability to work from home and travel to the field as required.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years engineering or telecommunications project management experience.
- Ability to use laptop/mobile devices to obtain and manipulate data.
- Solid and demonstrable knowledge of MS Office suite.
Recommended Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of CAD, GIS, Katapult, IKE, etc. a plus.
- Some college preferred, OSP, RTPM, etc.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Basic financial skills to assist in monitoring budgets.
