Friendship is seeking a Registered Dietician to join our dedicated team at Richfield in Salem, VA. The Registered Dietician will promote health and control disease through sound nutrition principles and medical nutrition therapy. 

Roles & Responsibilities:  

  • Counsel residents and families regarding nutrition interventions

  • Participate in MDS completion and care planning for nutritional aspects of high risk residents (those requiring feeding tubes and/or dialysis)

  • Supervise clinical nutrition care plans of all residents in the facility

  • Complete or oversee all nutrition consults ordered by practitioners

  • Prepare and disseminate significant weight changes in the facility

  • In-service/educate facility staff on nutritional aspects of policies and procedures as needed or requested by the administration

  • Attend care plan and risk meetings

  • Mentor/precept CDM candidates per request

  • Monitor quality measures report for accuracy of data entry and to aid with assessing and identifying residents at nutritional risk

  • Comply with facility safety and health guidelines

  • Provide consultation to administration regarding planning, policy development and priority setting based on evaluations of nutrition and food service programs

  • Complete audits on nutritional and/or food service programs; including regular kitchen sanitation inspections

  • Consult with Executive Director  of Dining on menus and compliance to state and federal regulations

  • Review policies and procedures related to nutrition, food service, and dining in preparation for state survey process

  • Prepare quality assurance report with information based on monthly significant weight changes. Attend the monthly QA meeting to discuss the weight change data.


Qualifications:

  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language

  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public
  • Be able to follow written and oral instructions

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Valid, Registered Dietician license, required

  • Experience in long term care facility preferred
