Astrophysics Intern

Summary:

The Intern will apply their knowledge of astronomy and physics to create content within Cosm’s industry-leading Digistar software. The intern will gain valuable community outreach experience and have exposure to the worldwide planetarium community. 

We’re looking for interns who want to develop experience and skills that will allow them to easily work or collaborate with informal and formal education. Interns will learn the world’s leading digital planetarium software, Digistar. They will work with astrophysics content such as SDSS Galaxies, pulsars, supernova remnants, star clusters, black holes, JWST, and more, to meet user demand for modular, interactive demonstrations that can be used in all levels of education, including at colleges and universities. 

The interns will learn to use groundbreaking immersive technology to test and present their work. At the end of the program, they will present their work in our revolutionary LED dome to colleagues, strategic partners, family, and friends. 

Responsibilities: 

• Learn to use Cosm’s industry-leading Digistar software program
• Create control panel pages for our collection of astrophysics data and demonstrations
• Expand and modify existing story demonstrations into easy-to-use, “modular” control panel format. The demonstrations will allow planetarians teaching all levels to use all or part of the work within their own shows.
• Test and submit finished work ready for addition to the next major Digistar software release.
• Present a live webinar that explains and demonstrates the work to Digistar users around the world.
• Collaborate with other astrophysics interns to create a tutorial that explains how to locate and use this content.

Qualifications:

• Junior or Senior at the start of the program.
• Available to work in a Cosm Office.
• Available to work 20 hours per week during the defined Intern period.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• Interest in immersive technology and content.
