Summary:

Working under Cosm’s Controller, the Accounting Director supports Cosm’s Hollywood Park Immersive Venue as well as supervises senior accountant for the Grandscape venue.  The Accounting Director will help build and scale accounting operations and will have regular interaction with senior members of the broader finance team.  The ideal candidate will have outstanding financial acumen, a passion for sports, media and entertainment, and experience with rapidly growing businesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the accounting processes for Event and Food & Beverage driven Sales and their associated costs.
  • Partner with Hollywood Park’s VP of Operations and General Manager to review monthly operating expenses, communicate results and actions to Cosm FP&A.
  • Manage the AP process which includes Bill.com, Fintech, and EDI vendor management.
  • Manage the Venues monthly close process which includes the timely and accurate reporting of financial results, including all event and F&B revenue/COGS.
  • Proper accounting and oversight of all event related expenses, including labor.
  • Responsible for inventory reconciliation process with operations.
  • Monitor and maintain consistency between the inventory management system and Cosm’s general ledger, Sage Intacct.
  • Conduct regular reviews to ensure accurate representation of food and beverage inventory in financial records.
  • Prepare, review, approve, and post manual journal entries for the General Ledger.
  • Review and approve monthly sales tax payments and filings for several businesses across multiple jurisdictions and assisting tax department with sales tax audit requests as applicable.
  • Manage cash/credit card reconciliations, verifying the accuracy of recorded transactions and investigating discrepancies.
  • Manage AR and deferred balances related special events and groups sales.
  • Assist in all aspects of internal and external financial statement preparation, including compliance with GAAP.
  • Assist with the development of financial and process controls.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies, including those specific to the hospitality industry.
  • Support financial and tax audits, and other reporting/compliance tasks.
  • Participate in a variety of projects and compile ad-hoc reports as needed.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • 10+ years of experience in the entertainment venue industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with SAGE Intacct ERP or other similar cloud-based ERP systems.
  • Experience with Inventory management systems is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, prioritization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others; conducts working relationships in a manner acceptable to others and the organization.
  • High proficiency using MS Office, including intermediate knowledge of Excel (Vlookups, pivot tables, If/Then statement functions and building spreadsheets).
  • Demonstrated capacity for gathering/scrutinizing data to identify issues, opportunities, patterns, and sustainable business solutions.
  • Ability to assertively solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Consistently demonstrates a commitment to Company policies and procedures, including but not limited to attendance, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and ethical responsibilities.
