Summary:

The City of Lawrence, KS, is seeking to fill the position of Parking Enforcement Officer. This position reports to the Parking Supervisor and would join a team of six colleagues who strive to support The Downtown Lawrence business district by encouraging turnover in the most desirable parking spaces. This position will also assist the Downtown Ambassador program, which performs a variety of tasks to keep downtown clean, safe, and welcoming to the Lawrence community and its visitors. The ideal candidate will have a passion for their work, treat all people with respect and empathy, and bring a positive and problem-solving attitude to the Parking Department.

 

This role is Tuesday through Saturday, second shift, 10 AM to 6 PM.


Responsibilities:

Some of the tasks and responsibilities include:

• Patrol parking areas on foot and in a motor vehicle; control and monitor vehicle parking in city parking garages, lots, and metered streets; respond to and issue citations for parking violations utilizing mobile and fixed computer units
• Download, manually input, and process a variety of citations, computer data, and corresponding information; ensure accuracy of violation citation description and related information
• Answer questions and provide information to the general public; refer sensitive inquiries to the appropriate department
• Support meter technician with the collection of parking revenues
• Notify meter technician of meters requiring repair
• Remove trash, stickers, and power wash sidewalks and stairs while supporting the downtown Ambassador Program
• Fill in for absences of school crossing guards throughout the City of Lawrence

 

This position helps advance the City’s Strategic Plan by providing a helpful, clean, and secure experience for downtown visitors. The Parking Enforcement Officer is positioned to recognize operations trends or common parker concerns, and this position is expected to help recommend improvements to service, communication, or processes that can enhance the downtown parking experience.

Qualifications:  
This positon requires general technology knowledge, great communication skills, ability to walk or be on your feet for long periods of time.

 

Equivalent to a high school diploma with one to three years of general construction experience is preferred. Construction or maintenance experience of some kind is required, with preferred familiarity with using work order applications and comfort in learning new parking software as needed. The successful candidate must pass a background check, post-offer physical and drug screening.
