VP Executive Editor, Simon & Schuster Books
Simon & Schuster is seeking a Vice President, Executive Editor to acquire nonfiction and/or fiction for its flagship imprint. All category interests and genre specialties will be considered. The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about and devoted to the art and craft of book publishing—yet also believes the industry is ripe for innovation and experimentation (and embraces efforts to affect such progress).
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Soliciting, acquiring, and editing books for publication.
2. Working with the publicity and marketing teams to position books and the art department on packaging.
3. Acting as the in-house liaison between editorial and the production, design, art, and managing editorial departments, as well as the sales, marketing and publicity teams.
4. Helping other editors assess projects as needed.
5. Communicating with authors and agents in all phases of the publishing process, from acquisition to publication date.
6. Effectively representing own list as well as the Simon & Schuster imprint to booksellers, foreign publishers, literary organizations, and other out-of-house contacts beyond authors and agents.
Please apply if you meet the following requirements:
--Minimum of 10-12 years of publishing experience in editorial acquisitions for a general trade publisher
--Strong editing capabilities
--Established contacts in the agent community
--Entrepreneurial thinker who proactively generates book ideas and seeks out writers directly
--Skilled at generating unique marketing and publicity ideas for their books
--Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
--Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to negotiate with authors and agents
--Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task effectively
--Excellent attention to detail
--Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.
--Willingness to work in person (Rockefeller Center, Manhattan) 3-4 days per week
