Simon and Schuster seeks a Marketing Assistant for its academic marketing division. This is a wonderful entry-point into the world of publishing and the right candidate will be able to make an immediate impact for a growing business sector at Simon and Schuster. This role will work closely with the Senior Marketing Manager overseeing academic marketing operations primarily for the adult divisions many imprints. Throughout its 100 year history, Simon and Schuster has published widely across a variety of categories with its books frequently adopted into academic curriculums at the high school, university, and postgraduate levels. Many of these titles help shape the conversation at the classroom and national levels while also representing significant annual revenues.

The Marketing Assistant will assist in a range of tasks including, but not limited to:

-Database growth and management
-Email marketing operations, including editorial curation and analytics reporting
-Research projects for specific titles as well as larger trends in academia
-Initiating, executing, and disseminating marketing materials
-Preparation for and participation in multiple annual conferences
-Regularly presenting key findings in the academic market and how S&S books are, or could, benefit

-Assisting imprints marketers with various academic initiatives

-Organizing and conducting focus groups

This role will require some travel throughout the year, usually on select weekends, as well as some light physical labor such as lifting boxes, packing/unpacking boxes and related materials. Given the nature of the role and S&S’s publishing programs, a keen understanding of news, culture, and pop culture are required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications will also be paramount. S&S employs various software, so a comfort level with learning and applying these programs will be key to success. The right candidate will have high confidence in written and oral communication, and will be comfortable presenting to large groups. This is a tremendous opportunity for someone looking to forge a career in book publishing, a self-starter who wants to learn and put skills old and new into action, and someone who is ready to contribute right away.
