The Job Profile

Reporting to the Senior Art Director for Picture Books, this role will play a key role in creating the list within our colour publishing team. Working on your own titles, you will work closely with the editorial and production teams to design quality commercial picture books.

In this role you’ll create, shape, champion and publish books that delight and captivate young readers. This is a terrific opportunity to work on a list within an award-winning and ambitious team, who have worked on the likes of Smriti Halls and Steve Small (I’m Sticking With You), Lu Fraser and Kate Hindley (The Littlest Yak), Benji Davies (The Storm Whale Series) and Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet (Supertato).

 

We are looking for someone who believes in the life-changing potential of reading for pleasure and have a special passion for the picture book publications that will encourage a life-long love of books.

 

The Job Role

Working closely with the Picture Book team you will focus on creating high quality, industry-leading Picture Books. You will develop, create and manage titles for the list working in close collaboration with internal stakeholders. Design innovation is key, you will understand pre-press working and the administrative aspects of bookmaking. You will understand market requirements, liaising with rights, production, sales and marketing.

 

The Candidate Profile

We seek someone highly skilled within the picture book design area who is experienced in early years publishing as well as inventive and commercially minded. You must be driven and committed, with excellent design skills and a terrific commercial eye. You will have plenty of technical design ability, fluent in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and a keen eye for innovative colour work. You will have experience in supplying print ready files to production and knowledge of print systems and settings. 

 

You will have a good idea of how to produce quality sales material as required and have the ability to manage a number of books on budget and on schedule within a fast-paced environment, you will be calm under pressure and thrive on meeting deadlines. We are a small team so the ideal candidate must be happy to pitch in across all areas and have strong communication, project, and time-management skills.
