The Job Profile: Simon & Schuster UK’s Adult Editorial Non-Fiction team is looking for a business savvy, motivated and entrepreneurial commissioning editor to join their vibrant team and strategically build on our growing list of business titles, both domestic and international.

Reporting to the Deputy Publishing Director, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage and develop Simon & Schuster UK’s business book publishing, and build their own list of profitable, internationally acclaimed books within Simon & Schuster UK’s expanding publishing programme.

The Job Role: The ideal candidate will commission and publish business titles and manage some of our existing backlist, ensuring the list meets identified market needs. As part of the publishing process the postholder will managing their own titles to critical path, keeping them on schedule and budget, being responsible for maintaining the publishing process, preparing costings, negotiating contracts, being the first point of call with colleagues across departments, positioning and presenting titles with enthusiasm and energy, writing copy, briefing jackets with care and creativity, contributing to ideas and strategy for the imprint, including backlist initiatives, and providing excellent author and agent care. 

The Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge and understanding of the business publishing experience, including editing (structural and line), acquiring and publishing in this area. They will have an unstinting eye for detail and design.

They will have a genuine passion for books in this area of the market, for example: coaching, management, smart thinking, leadership, finance, investment, personal development and narrative business.

They will have the ability to manage their workload efficiently, and take titles from acquisition to final publication. They will have the confidence and poise to be an ambassador and champion for Simon & Schuster UK both internally and externally. They will have the ability to build strong relationships across the publishing industry, both in the UK and internationally.
