Designer, Social Media & Content Marketing
Simon & Schuster (S&S) seeks a Designer, Social Media & Content Marketing to help promote new releases and backlist titles to drive book sales, audience growth and author awareness.
This role will serve as an integral member of S&S’s Corporate Marketing team, contributing to the creative and visual excellence of our social media, website and events presence. You will also serve as a thought partner to S&S’s stable of award-winning imprints, helping to uplift their social media efforts and empower their authors to create engaging social media content.
This role requires someone with 4+ years of creative experience across graphic design, photography, and video production. Extra points for illustration and/or audio editing experience! The candidate should be a creative thinker and producer who is passionate about engaging audiences through visual formats.
Responsibilities include:
- Ideating and creating engaging video, graphics, motion content and visuals tailored for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Pinterest, YouTuber and more
- Collaborating with the web/content team to create visually compelling e-commerce and digital assets for simonandschuster.com
- Designing on-brand print and digital creative for consumer events
- Manage the day-to-day design workflow, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Generating templates and best practices to assist S&S imprints and authors in creating engaging digital and social content
- Managing the ongoing development of the S&S’s visual identity system, ensuring brand consistency across corporate marketing touch points
- Attending and capturing content at film shoots and events
- Ideating, individually and collaboratively, on innovative content ideas designed to meet long-term goals for S&S’s website, social media platforms, audience growth and revenue generation
- Quickly identifying and executing on social trends and sharing user/community generated content that uplifts the S&S brand, its authors, books and imprints
- Staying current with industry trends, design trends, emerging technologies and tools, and best practices in social media, e-commerce, digital design
- Interpreting data to measure the effectiveness of design solutions and iterate based on insights
- Solid understanding of UI/UX principles for web/mobile/apps
- Maintaining approved style and brand guidelines
- Organizing, monitoring, and maintaining files on shared drives.
Preferred Candidates should have:
- 5+ years of experience in a design or creative role, with a strong portfolio showcasing social media campaigns and website content
- Experience in creating engaging social media content across all major social media platforms including Instagram, Threads, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, BlueSky, and more.
- Proficiency in design/video software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects), Canva, CapCut and more.
- iPhone and DSLR photography, capturing and editing video, and motion graphics skills
- Ability to deliver production-ready, platform-optimized digital assets in a wide variety of formats
- Strong conceptual thinking and storytelling ability
- Experience working across multiple platforms, including digital, print, video, and social media.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
- Organized, detail-oriented, collaborative, and versatile to handle a range of projects
- An interest in, and understanding of, the ever-evolving social media landscape
- Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed
- Familiarity with HTML/CSS/Javascript a plus.
- Familiarity with with UI libraries and frameworks (e.g. Bulma) a plus.
