Job Profile:

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Finance, the Financial Accountant is an integral part of the Simon &Schuster Australia Finance team, central to our monthly financial reporting, smooth running of AP and AR processes, accurate processing of eBook and eAudio revenues and responsible for ongoing balance sheet reconciliations. You will also be involved in a variety of finance projects aimed at improving our efficiency and the quality of service provided to the broader business.

 

Your Role:

You will ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records for all areas of the P&L and balance sheet as well as timely submission of group reporting deliverables. A highly visible member of the Finance team you will be the key contact for the immediate Finance team for all accounting areas including payroll tax; for the wider business concerning Accounts Payable/Receivables and employee expenses; for the editorial team on budgeting, forecasting and tracking operating expenses; for colleagues at S&S Inc., S&S India and S&S UK concerning financial reporting and intercompany transactions. You will assist the Head of Commercial Finance with design and implementation of improvements to processes and controls. You will also be responsible for creating royalty contracts for ANZ Original and Rights titles, producing royalty statements, managing authors/ agents queries and managing rights deals.

 

The role includes working with staff from across the business to improve process compliance, share best practice and explain often complex financial matters to non-finance staff.

 

This is an ideal role for someone looking to gain managerial experience. While the role does not initially have line manager responsibilities, you would be help oversee and support junior members of the finance team.

 

Your Profile:

The ideal candidate will be CPA/ CA qualified or working towards qualification either looking for a first role outside of audit practice or already working within a Finance team in industry. Media experience – whether in industry or audit capacity – is highly desirable. You will have exceptional organisational and communication skills together with solid knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with accountancy software.

 

You will be a proactive team player, self-motivated and able to work under own autonomy with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills as well as have good analytical skills and the ability to use judgement. You will have an inquisitive mind and be unafraid to question existing processes and suggest potential improvements.
